2) Yes we do have English for Academic Purposes at UofC. See below the information about it.
Thank you for your interest in the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program. The following includes some basic information about the program. Please visit their website at http://www.ucalgary.ca/admissions/eap for more information.
The English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program is the only comprehensive, intensive program designed to prepare academically qualified students whose native language is not English, for entry into the University's degree or diploma programs.
The EAP program is for prospective international, Permanent Residents or Canadian students whose level of English language proficiency is at the intermediate to advanced level. The program is not designed for beginners. Applicants should have test scores indicating an intermediate level from standardized tests such as the TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge, Michigan, etc.
Effective for the Fall 2009 academic session, applicants must formally present a minimum English proficiency score to be considered for EAP + Degree. Details will be available on this website in October, 2008.
EAP students have the option of enrolling as Open Studies students to study English only, or academically qualified students can apply for admission to the combined EAP + Degree program. Please note the latter is not an option for applicants to the Haskayne School of Business, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Nursing, Faculty of Medicine, or the Faculty of Social Work.
Successful completion of Tier 3 satisfies the ELP requirement for admission into most programs at the University. Students admitted to the combined EAP + Degree and enrolled in Tier 3 can take one university credit course while registered in the program with the approval of the EAP Coordinator. EAP courses may not be used for credit towards a degree or diploma program.
Application deadlines:EAP + Degree
- February 1 for students outside of Canada
- April 1 for students within Canada and for Canadians and Permanent Residents
The English for Academic Purposes Program has developed specialized seminars for non-native English speaking graduate students, post doctoral scholars and researchers, as well as visiting professors. EAPG seminars have been developed to help individuals with academic/scholarly writing and several core aspects of academic oral communication and dissertation, thesis and proposal writing. The seminars have been approved by the Faculty of Graduate Studies.
Each seminar is offered once a week for 3 hours. The seminars are 13 weeks in duration for a total of 39 hours of instruction.
Certificates of Completion will be issued for your professional portfolios.
Seminars being offered are:1. Advanced Writing Seminar
2. Advanced Communications Seminar.
