Day 1 – 4th Dec 2008

You will be met on arrival and driven to Giritale. Approximately 5 ½ hours from the Katunayake Bandaranaike international airport.
You could visit the Polonnaruwa ancient royal capital, with its well-preserved 12th century ruins & impressive stone culture recalls an inspired past. A great way to explore the ancient city is on a bicycle – these can be rented from the Polonnaruwa Rest House.(optional)
Evening enjoy the Minneriya National Park Jeep Safari.

Day 2 – 5th Dec 2008

This morning at approx. 6am set off to climb the spectacular rock fortress of Sigiriya, with its rocky abode & water gardens. Approximately 30 minutes drive from Kandalama is famous for its toadstool of golden-hued granite, protruding into the searing blue sky from a hot, flat wilderness of scrubland, which is transformed in the rainy season to a water garden. In the 5th century King Kashyapa domesticated the Lions Rock, by building a palace atop its summit. Sigiriya commemorates some of the turbulence of Sri Lanka’s history.
Spend the afternoon visiting the beautiful Dambulla cave temple, the largest cave monastery in the country with a history going back to the 1st century BC. The rest of the day just soak in the atmosphere.

Day 3 - 4 - 6th & 7th Dec 2008

Day 5 –8th Dec 2008

Today morning spend exploring Kandy. A lively city, Kandy is surrounded by rolling hills and forest. The last capital of the Singhalese Kingdom, this hill country city is famed for its lake and the Temple of the Tooth. The Peradeniya Botanical Gardens are within 30 minutes of Kandy, and are also home to the enormous fruit bats who hang from the tree tops as they sleep during daytime. You could also visit a traditional arts & crafts centre, a gem museum. (Again these are quite touristy however totally up to you) and visit the Temple of the Tooth, resting place of the country's most precious Buddhist relic. (This is optional).
Afternoon relax your self and enjoy the dinner at your hotel.

Day 6 –9th Dec 2008

Morning depart Kandy for Nuwara Eliya or Little England as it is also aptly referred to. It is Sri Lanka's most popular holiday resort. At approximately 6500 feet above sea level, with temperatures ranging from 12 C to 22 C it opens into a breathtaking panorama of colour. Beautiful gardens, cascading waterfalls, lakes and sweet smelling mountain air.
Stop off at The Hill Club for Lunch. Perhaps one of the few remaining monuments that remind you of the colonial occupation of Sri Lanka, The Hill Club was founded in 1876 by a British Coffee Planter and today is a privately operated club.
Enjoy your dinner at the hotel.

Day 7 - 10th Dec 2008

Adventure: - Rise early to walk through Horton Plains National Park, this is a beautiful, silent, strange world with some excellent hikes in the shadows of Sri Lanka’s second and third highest mountains. This is the only national park in Sri Lanka where visitors are permitted to walk on their own (On designated trails only).
